Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE)

The Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) is a comprehensive source of information on incentives and policies that support renewable energy and energy efficiency in the United States. DSIRE is operated by the N.C. Clean Energy Technology Center at North Carolina State University and is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The DSIRE website provides summaries of active renewable energy and energy efficiency incentive programs and policies established by the federal government, states, local governments, and larger utilities. Relevant California incentives and policies are organized into two general categories (and roughly 30 specific policy/incentive types):

    • Financial Incentives: approx. 160 state, local and utility programs offering incentives, grants, loans, rebates, and other types of financing assistance for solar installations and other renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.
    • Rules, Regulations & Policies: 48 state and local codes, standards, requirements, and regulatory policies pertaining to renewables and energy efficiency, including solar access policies, solar permitting standards, net metering, interconnection standards, value of solar tariffs, and energy standards for buildings.
